Highlighting the Success and Future of Pepper Cultivation in Murcia
Semillas Fitó has successfully wrapped up its pepper campaign in the Region of Murcia, marked by the V Edition of #VitaminateconPimiento and a comprehensive video summary on YouTube. This campaign underscores the significance of promoting pepper cultivation and its benefits to both farmers and consumers.
The V Edition of #VitaminateconPimiento has once again proven how vital it is to emphasize the value of pepper cultivation in Murcia and to communicate its advantages to the end consumers, thereby encouraging its consumption. This year, Semillas Fitó organized promotions across various auctions in the Campo de Cartagena region to engage directly with farmers. One of the highlights of these promotions was a game where farmers guessed the weight of a box of peppers to win a prize, adding an element of fun and competition to the campaign.
In collaboration with the city council of Pilar de la Horadada, Semillas Fitó’s technical and commercial team also participated in the II Fitness Marathon. This event was an opportunity to inform consumers about the benefits of pepper cultivation, aligning with the campaign’s goal to boost pepper consumption.
Semillas Fitó conducted several direct actions with farmers throughout the Region of Murcia, reinforcing their commitment to supporting local agriculture and enhancing the production capabilities of the region’s farmers.
As a leader in pepper cultivation in Murcia, Semillas Fitó offers leading varieties in key segments such as California pepper and Lamuyo. Their California Red varieties, including the Maestral, Nelto, and Maestranza, are particularly noteworthy. The Maestral variety has been a staple in Murcia for years, known for its high production and early yield. The Nelto and Maestranza varieties are distinguished by their high-quality fruits, square shape, thick walls, and intense red color. These varieties are not only highly productive but also offer staggered harvesting, which is highly beneficial for market demands. Additionally, they are resistant to powdery mildew and nematodes, addressing key concerns of producers.
In the Lamuyo segment, the Rio Grande variety stands out. It has been a benchmark in Murcia for over five years, praised for its fruit quality, production, and versatility in harvesting both green and red peppers. This variety is particularly suited for transplants in the Campo de Cartagena starting in November, producing top-quality, highly productive, and intensely red fruits.
Semillas Fitó remains dedicated to the continuous improvement of pepper varieties in the Region of Murcia. Their ongoing efforts to develop varieties that are well-suited to both greenhouse and outdoor production segments underscore their commitment to the agricultural success of the region.
