Acquisition Enhances GrubMarket’s Presence in Asian Vegetables and Fresh Produce Sector
GrubMarket has successfully acquired Best Oriental Produce, a prominent player in the fresh produce industry, based in Vernon, CA. This acquisition marks a significant expansion for GrubMarket into the domain of Asian vegetables, leveraging Best Oriental Produce’s extensive resources and market reach.
Best Oriental Produce stands as the largest Asian squash provider in the United States and holds a leading position as the world’s largest grower of Chinese eggplant. The company operates a substantial 700-hectare farming operation across California and Mexico, where it produces a diverse array of vegetables year-round. Additionally, it is the single largest importer of young coconuts from Thailand into the U.S., and manages an impressive logistics operation that includes the movement of up to 10 full truckloads of Chinese eggplant daily from Mexico.
Founded over 35 years ago by Ben Charoensuk, a veteran in the fresh produce sector, Best Oriental Produce has developed into a major import and export entity. The company grows and ships a wide variety of Asian vegetables such as bitter melon, Chinese eggplant, long bean, and Asian squash from both open field farms and greenhouse facilities. Its PrimusGFS-certified warehouse, spanning nearly 25,000 square feet, features advanced refrigeration capabilities, ensuring the highest standards of produce quality and freshness.
The acquisition will integrate Best Oriental Produce into GrubMarket’s broader portfolio, which includes advanced technology solutions designed to streamline the food supply chain. GrubMarket’s suite of tools, including AI-powered ERP software, WholesaleWare, GrubAssist, Orders IO, and GrubPay, will provide Best Oriental Produce with enhanced financial management, sales support, inventory management, and digital payments capabilities.
Following the acquisition, Best Oriental Produce will continue to be managed by its current leadership team, renowned for their dedication and expertise. This continuity ensures that the company’s established relationships with major supermarket and retail chains across the U.S. and Canada remain intact, supporting its ongoing success and profitability.
