Bumper Spring Harvest in Hai Duong: Farmers Reap Profits Amid Expanded Vegetable Production

As the spring planting season nears its end in Hai Duong, Vietnam, farmers in the region are celebrating a highly productive and profitable harvest. According to the provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the area planted with spring vegetables has reached 10,200 hectares, surpassing the seasonal plan by 200 hectares and marking an increase of 89 hectares compared to the same period in 2024.

This expansion reflects a strong trend across the province, where over half of localities exceeded their planting targets, and the remainder achieved 92% to 98% of their goals. The diverse crop mix includes corn, melons, kohlrabi, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, tomato, eggplant, chili, herbs, and other green vegetables. These crops have shown strong growth this season, with fewer pest and disease issues than in previous years.

Yield and Profitability

Farmers in Tran Phu commune, Nam Sach district, report yields of 6–7 quintals per sao (equivalent to about 0.6–0.7 tons per 360 m²), generating average profits of 3–5 million VND per sao (approximately USD 120–200), depending on harvest timing and crop variety. Despite a slight decrease in vegetable prices compared to last year, the overall market conditions remain favorable, contributing to stable farm incomes.

Although crops such as squash, cucumbers, and onions experienced minor damage due to downy mildew, these incidents were limited in scope and did not significantly affect total output. Proactive pest control has helped maintain crop health—farmers in Tu Ky district, for instance, are actively spraying to prevent damage from silkworms and flea beetles, especially during the late spring window when such pests are more prevalent.

Seasonal Outlook and Recommendations

The spring vegetable season in Hai Duong typically concludes by the end of April. Agricultural experts are urging farmers to continue frequent field monitoring to identify early signs of pest outbreaks and apply appropriate integrated pest management (IPM) techniques to minimize losses and safeguard profits.

This season’s success is attributed to not only favorable weather conditions but also improved farming practices and farmer responsiveness to technical guidance provided by local agricultural departments.


Hai Duong’s spring vegetable season in 2025 is a clear testament to the value of planned expansion, responsive pest management, and crop diversification. With higher-than-expected yields and continued market demand, farmers in the region are not only achieving strong economic returns but also contributing to the resilience and sustainability of Vietnam’s vegetable sector.
