Since the beginning of the year, 447 thousand tons of vegetables and green crops have been grown in Russian winter greenhouses, which is 4.9% more than in the same period in 2021 (426.1 thousand tons). Including the harvest of greenhouse cucumbers is 279.1 thousand tons (+1.8%), tomatoes – 158.4 thousand tons (+10.8%). The Ministry of Agriculture expects the positive dynamics in this segment to continue at the end of the year – according to the forecast, the harvest will be about 1.5 million tons.
Currently, the TOP-5 leading regions for the production of vegetables in winter greenhouses include the Lipetsk, Moscow, Volgograd, Kaluga regions and the Stavropol Territory.
The development of greenhouse vegetable growing is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Agriculture. Preferential investment loans and “stimulating” subsidies are provided for industry enterprises. In addition, a new mechanism for compensating part of the costs for the construction of greenhouse enterprises in the regions of the Far East has been operating since this year. In the future, a set of measures will make it possible to provide Russians with fresh vegetable products of their own production all year round and not depend on import supplies in the off-season.
