Now several types of vegetable gardens are presented to visitors in the park.
On Friday, May 13, employees of the reserve told about the reconstruction of the complex of manor gardens, which was located in the Mon Repos park in the late 18th – early 19th centuries.
It is worth recalling that historically Mon Repos was not only a park, but also a noble estate, which housed many outbuildings and plantings. For example, plants were grown in vegetable gardens for the needs of the owners.
Even at the beginning of spring, spices, vegetables and berries were planted here, taking into account historical materials and decorative qualities. Mon Repos employees restored the Greenhouse Garden, where barley, oats, wheat, rye, zucchini, pumpkins, cabbage, sunflowers, celery and green manure were planted. The latter are organic fertilizer for rapeseed, mustard and lupins.
Opposite the Library Wing is the Kitchen Garden. Now salads, dill, cilantro, asparagus, onions and basil with strawberries grow here. Closer to the road are bushes of currants, gooseberries and felted cherries.
Near the Manor House you can see the Pharmaceutical Garden with mint, yarrow, thyme, Monarda, etc.
For quality and good appearance, seedlings were ordered from a greenhouse. By the opening of the park, all plants will have grown enough to please the eye of visitors.
