The Russian division of the Polish company has existed since 2008. It was acquired by the seafood manufacturer “Agama”.
Hortex, a Polish frozen food manufacturer, has sold the Russian division of Ortika Frozen Foods to fish supplier Agama Group. This is evidenced by the data of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, the corresponding entry appeared there on July 11.
Kommersant was the first to pay attention to this. The source of the newspaper in the industry indicated that Hortex imported most of the raw materials and purchased from other manufacturers, as a result, after the introduction of a food embargo against Russia in 2014, profitability decreased markedly. Yagoda Karelia Managing Director Alexander Samokhvalov told the publication that even before the crisis, Hortex planned to leave the Russian market and was looking for buyers.
Hortex calls itself the leader in the sale of frozen vegetables and fruits in Central and Eastern Europe. In Russia, the company manufactures and packages products at partner enterprises – two plants in the Moscow region and one in Karelia. The Russian “Ortika Frozen Foods” was established in 2008.
The Agama group of companies was founded in 1998 in Moscow by Yuri Alashaev and Igor Lysenkov, and produces products under the brand of the same name and the Bay of Abundance brand. In 2010, the company launched a joint venture, Agama Royal Greenland, specializing in the processing of fish and seafood, with Danish Royal Greenland. Later, Agama opened a cod processing plant in the Murmansk region and a workshop for the production and packaging of finished products in Leshkovo (Moscow region).
