You should not buy more products than necessary so that you do not have to throw them away, the expert notes.
Yulia Lemesheva, senior manager of the operational delivery direction of the express delivery service of a large supermarket chain, told Prime about the main mistakes in storing vegetables and fruits in the summer.
According to her, the berries are fully stored only three days after picking, then the juice is released. To extend the period, they should be stored in bulk containers in the refrigerator and not touched unless necessary. Before storing fruits and berries, it is better not to wash them – water accelerates their deterioration. Vegetables should be stored separately from fruits and berries. Some fruits release ethylene, which allows them to ripen after harvest, and it also adversely affects vegetables lying nearby.
Zucchini, pumpkin and zucchini are best stored in a cool place. Cauliflower – disassemble into inflorescences, put in a jar and sprinkle with coarse salt – this way it is stored for a week. Potato tubers are best kept in a vegetable drawer away from onions and garlic so that they do not germinate. It is important not to buy more food than necessary so that you do not have to throw it away, Lemesheva concluded.
