Stavropol farmers will provide Russians with onions in the off-season

In 2022, the yield of Stavropol onions is higher than last year, and vegetable growers pay special attention to the preparation of harvested products for storage

Onions are considered a rather unpretentious vegetable crop, Stavropol farmers grow it everywhere. So for this year’s harvest, the area under onion plantings was 1924 hectares.

– Currently, vegetable growers of Stavropol have harvested about 202 hectares, or 11% of the plan. 5,530 tons of onions were harvested with an average yield of 272.8 c/ha, which is higher than last year, – said Natalia Repukhova, head of the Department of Melioration and Vegetable Growing of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory.

The farmers of Izobilnensky (4170 tons), Shpakovsky (644 tons), Trunovsky (405 tons) districts have accumulated the most onions. At the same time, onions are being harvested at an active pace in the Arzgir and Neftekum districts.

Note that after harvesting, experienced vegetable growers carefully dry the onions, observing the necessary temperature conditions and humidity level, to ensure long-term storage, for the purpose of further implementation in the off-season, select well-ripened heads with dense dry scales, thin necks, without signs of disease and mechanical damage.

– As part of the implementation of the state program of the Stavropol Territory “Development of Agriculture”, about 88 million rubles have been allocated this year to support vegetable growing. These funds, on behalf of Governor Vladimir Vladimirova, were brought by the regional Ministry of Agriculture to agricultural producers in the first half of the year. State support in this direction was provided in 2022 to 78 agricultural producers, including 72 peasant (farmer) farms,” said Yevgeny Grishchenko, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory.
