The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Rostov region during the All-Russian agro-industrial exhibition “Golden Autumn-2022” in Moscow signed a cooperation agreement with the seed breeding company LLC Agrofirma Poisk on cooperation in the field of vegetable growing, the Ministry of Regional Policy and Mass Communications reports.
Within the framework of the agreement, it is planned to cooperate in the implementation of methodological, expert-analytical and research work in the field of vegetable growing.
“Vegetable growing is one of the leading branches of agriculture in the Don region, therefore, serious attention is paid to the production of open-ground vegetables. The main task of such cooperation is to ensure import substitution of vegetable seeds and transfer the main volumes of vegetable production in the Don region to domestic varieties and hybrids in order to obtain environmentally safe vegetable products,” the words of the first deputy governor of the region Viktor Goncharov are quoted in the message.
According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, the production of open-ground vegetables in the region is concentrated in the central irrigated zone along the Don main canal (mainly Semikarakorsky, Veselovsky, Bagaevsky and Volgodonsky districts). The production of vegetables in the open ground prevails: cabbage, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, tomatoes, cucumbers and other crops are grown.
LLC Agrofirma Poisk was founded on October 1, 1990 and implements breeding programs for 18 major vegetable crops. Over 25 years of breeding work, over 820 varieties and hybrids of vegetable crops have been created. In 2022, 85 thousand hectares of acreage in commercial vegetable growing in Russia were sown with varieties and hybrids of “Search”.
