The cost of a borscht set in Moscow has decreased by almost 60 percent compared to June of this year — to 145 rubles. This was reported on October 10 in the Department of Economic Policy and Development of Moscow. Vechernaya Moskva found out where it is most profitable to buy vegetables for borscht and what will happen to prices by the end of this year.
The peak price for the borscht set fell on July of this year — its average price in the capital was 358 rubles. The composition of this set included one kilogram of cabbage, potatoes, onions, beets and carrots. According to economist Alexander Tsaplikov, the autumn price decline is associated with a rather strong seasonal reduction in the cost of vegetables.
— The harvest this year turned out to be excellent. By the end of the year, the cost of the borscht set will be fixed at the current values. Domestic agricultural enterprises will provide the market with vegetables until next summer,” the specialist commented to Vecherke.
It is best to buy vegetables for soup at seasonal fairs and markets. According to farmer Ivan Slobodyanyuk, sellers there offer not only cheaper products than in large supermarkets, but also fresher and tastier.
— The quality control of the goods there is quite strict. The risks that vegetables will be treated with chemicals to give a beautiful appearance are minimal. Local business executives offer goods two to three times cheaper than large chains. There is no additional margin,” the farmer explains.
So, the average price of a kilogram of carrots on the market is 10 rubles. And some sellers can give a kilogram of potatoes for 12 rubles.
— A borscht set assembled on the market will cost you about 100 rubles. Beets will be the most expensive in it, because there is always a demand for it, and it is collected in slightly smaller quantities than the same potatoes,” Ivan Slobodyanyuk told Vecherka.
On the market, you can also buy natural seasonings for soup, the cost of a bag weighing 150 grams is 30-40 rubles.
