In the Amur region, the harvesting campaign for all major crops is coming to an end. The results of the last field season were brought to the Governor Vasily Orlov.
The leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture notes that an increase in production and yield is expected for a number of crops, and this is despite the difficult weather conditions this summer.
Sergey Adamenko, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Amur region, said that in 2022 they plan to harvest 450 thousand tons of grain from the fields (in 2021 they collected 23 thousand tons less). It was possible to achieve such results thanks to the redistribution of land – the acreage for corn was almost doubled.
The acreage for potatoes and other vegetables has increased, and experts noted that there is an increase both in the volume of products produced and in yield. In 2022, potatoes are harvested with a yield of 170 quintals per hectare, despite the fact that last year the yield reached the level of 145 quintals per hectare. The gross potato harvest this year amounted to 27.6 thousand tons, which is 9.2 thousand tons higher than a year earlier.
— This year, Amur farmers received a new measure of support – subsidies in the amount of 70 thousand rubles for each additional hectare of land occupied by potatoes or vegetables of open ground. A noticeable increase in the harvest suggests that the support measure has proved effective and in demand among agricultural producers. We see that in many farms, the acreage for potatoes was increased due to the redistribution of land previously occupied by other crops. This means that vegetable growing in the region has become a profitable and interesting direction for farmers. Support measures for the construction of vegetable storages also had a positive effect. This year we will be able to preserve our own potato harvest until spring in the amount necessary for the region,” said Governor Vasily Orlov.
