Vegetable farmers increase their income, new varieties, new choices for citizens to buy vegetables

Nowadays, it is the harvest season of kale. At the test base of Hengyang Vegetable Research Institute, the kale grown in the open air has a turquoise color, tight leaf bulbs, and beautiful appearance, which has attracted many large farmers and agricultural companies in Hengyang City to observe on-site.

Since 2017, the Municipal Vegetable Research Institute has used the academician expert workstation as the platform to introduce 65 new varieties of cabbage cultivated by the team of Academician Fang Zhiyuan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and carried out comparative variety tests and appraisal and evaluation of their commercial properties, yield, adaptability and disease resistance. A total of 13 varieties were selected for demonstration and promotion planting.Among them, Hengyang City is widely planted with 7 flat spherical varieties such as Zhonggan 101, 105, and 106, and 6 round spherical varieties such as Zhonggan 628 and 21.

Judging from the planting benefits in recent years, the general response of farmers has been good. Kale has not only become an important variety for vegetable farmers to increase their income, but also a “new favorite” for citizens to buy.The person in charge of Hunan Yaohong Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd. said that the yield of Zhonggan 628 and 21 has been increased by about 20% compared to the original, and the yield per acre can reach about 3,500 kg.Citizen Mr. Wang said that kale not only has a good appearance and many layers of green leaves, but also is crispy and slightly sweet, and has a good taste. It is a veritable green food.

In order to do a good job in the promotion of cabbage varieties, Hengyang Vegetable Research Institute gives full play to the scientific research advantages of academician and expert workstations, goes deep into various production bases, and conducts technical guidance.The person in charge of Hunan Aotoushan Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd. said that if the base encounters pests and diseases during the planting of kale, experts from the academician workstation of the Municipal Vegetable Research Institute will hear the news and analyze it on the spot. Take the right medicine to ensure the harvest of the base.The cultivation of kale not only enriches the citizens’ “vegetable basket”, but also infuses new momentum into the development of rural industries.(All-media reporter Wu Xiaojun)
