Even more domestic fruits and berries arrive on the shelves of Russian stores. Last year, agrarians updated the record for their production, having collected, according to preliminary data, more than 1.5 million tons of products in the organized sector. This is 5% higher than in 2021.
Horticulture is one of the most actively developing and investment-attractive areas, which steadily shows growth from year to year. The increase in production volumes is primarily due to the high rate of establishment of modern intensive orchards and nurseries – in 2022 it is about 11 thousand hectares. This will allow us to further increase the yields of fruits and berries, reducing the volume of imports.
Traditionally, the leading regions in this segment are the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, the Republics of Crimea and Ingushetia, the Voronezh, Volgograd and Lipetsk Regions. The main types of fruits and berries grown in our country are apples, plums, cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, currants, raspberries and garden strawberries. In addition, blueberry production has been actively developing in recent years.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia provides comprehensive support in this area, including through the reimbursement of part of the costs of planting and caring for perennial fruit and berry plantations, including nurseries. Also, gardeners are provided with preferential investment and short-term lending, compensation for direct costs incurred for the creation and modernization of agricultural facilities, grants to small forms of management.
