11.7 thousand hectares of land were sown with sugar beet this year. The main growing regions in Kazakhstan are Almaty, Zhetysu and Zhambyl regions. The main production facilities for sugar beet processing are located in the same regions. Beet growers this year handed over 281 thousand tons of raw materials for processing. This is reported by MIA “Kazinform” with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
“The state partially subsidizes the costs of growing this difficult crop for cultivation, and also subsidizes the products delivered to the factories. In 2021, beet growers in the regions received a total of about 3 billion tenge.
In 2022, the subsidy rate increased by 3 thousand tenge and amounted to 15 thousand tenge per ton of sugar beet put into processing. Factories also buy raw materials at 15 thousand tenge per ton. In total, farmers receive 30 thousand tenge.
From 2023, due to an increase in the subsidy rate from 15 to 25 thousand tenge, beet growers will sell a ton of their product for 40 thousand tenge. Thus, the profitability of sugar beet will be brought to the level of other crops,” the Ministry of Agriculture reported.
In addition, within the framework of stimulating the development of the sugar industry, the construction of new sugar factories will be included in the list of investment subsidies, 25% of capital investments will be reimbursed by the state.
The issue of increasing the reimbursement rate for the purchase of beet harvesters and irrigation equipment from 25% to 50% is being worked out. It is assumed that the new subsidy rules will take effect from 2023.
As part of the implementation of the comprehensive plan for the development of the sugar industry until 2026, it is planned to increase the acreage of crops to 38 thousand hectares.
