Dried apricot exports from Malatya, the world’s largest apricot producer, have increased despite the powerful earthquakes that hit Türkiye’s south in early February. In the first four months of 2023, 5,500 tons of dried apricots were shipped to foreign markets, generating $34 million in export revenues. Although the earthquakes had a limited impact on apricot exports, there was a labor shortage that prevented even higher exports. The frost did not have much impact on apricot production, but heavy rains caused damage. Despite this, last year’s dried apricot exports generated $402 million in revenues, marking the highest export revenue ever. Türkiye’s dried apricot exports exceeded 76,000 tons last year, indicating a 13 percent increase from 2021.
