The Lunar New Year brings anticipation to the agricultural markets in Taichung, Taiwan. Deputy Mayor Wang Yumin, accompanied by Agricultural Bureau Director Zhang Jingchang, conducted an early morning inspection of the Taichung Fish Market and Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market. The market visit aimed to gain insights into the supply and demand for fish, vegetables, and fruits ahead of the Spring Festival.
Taichung Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market Highlights:
Adequate supply of vegetables for the Spring Festival, with an average daily trade volume of around 174 tons and an average price of NT$18.8 per kilogram.
Due to reduced fruit production this winter, the daily average trade volume for fruits is approximately 355 tons, with an average price of NT$66.3 per kilogram.
Special emphasis on popular fruits with auspicious meanings, such as tangerines, jujubes, papayas, and pineapples.
Market Preparations for the Lunar New Year:
Intensified operations starting February 5, with staff starting one hour early and vegetable auctions beginning at 3:00 AM.
Additional auction sessions from 5:00 to 8:00 PM to alleviate supply and demand pressures.
Close monitoring of prices to prevent artificial manipulation, with market officials actively adjusting supply levels.
As the Lunar New Year festivities approach, Taichung’s agricultural markets are well-prepared to meet the demands. Stable pricing, ample supply, and proactive measures demonstrate the commitment to providing quality and safe agricultural products for consumers. The integration of modern practices and infrastructure improvements further signifies a promising future for Taiwan’s agricultural sector.
