In terms of agricultural production, especially in cropping and aquaculture, Duen Hai District has strategically deployed various capital support initiatives to help farmers transform their production structure. From building net houses to grow crops to developing livestock, these efforts have helped leverage local benefits, increase income, and address employment problems in the community.
Nguyen Van Giuy, Chairman of the Duyen Hoi District Farmers’ Association, emphasized the concerted efforts to use auxiliary capital, particularly through the Agricultural Support Fund in combination with agricultural sector funds. Through the initiatives outlined in Resolution No. 03/NQ-HDND dated March 19, 2021, the district has focused on investing in various areas such as the construction of net houses for crop cultivation and livestock farming in several communes including Ngo Loc, Long Khanh, Long Von . , Dong Hai and Dong Xuan. By the end of March 2024, the county had invested in 20 clean house models combined with water-saving irrigation systems worth VND 100 million per model, generating a revenue of VND 80 to 100 million per 1,000 square meters per year.
One local resident, Huang Van Diu, from Ho Thong Village, Dong Hoi Commune, shared his family’s success story after investing in a net house with water-saving irrigation on a 1,700 square meter sandy plot. With a total investment of VND 170 million, including VND 100 million from government funds under Regulation No. 03, they have diversified their crops to include chili peppers, green onions and white radish. This shift resulted in an annual profit of more than VND 150 million.
In accordance with Resolution No. 03, the agricultural sector of Duyen Hoi County has initiated 42 models in various fields with a total budget exceeding VND 5.6 billion. Notably, the investments were made in VietGAP-certified crop, livestock and aquaculture models in accordance with VietGAP principles, all aimed at modernizing and improving agricultural practices in the region.
Pham Tho Hong Dim, deputy head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Duyen Hoi District, highlighted how these policy-based capital sources allow farmers to expand their production structures, apply scientific advances and increase incomes, while minimizing risks and optimizing production costs. .
By the first quarter of 2024, Duenhai District had successfully converted more than 35 hectares of rice fields into intercropping, crop diversification and integrated herb cultivation. In addition, more than 20 hectares of aquaculture ponds have been converted from extensive to intensive farming methods. Currently, there are 774 households in the district engaged in high-density shrimp farming in 1,696 ponds covering an area of 225.5 hectares.
The introduction of net house models coupled with water-saving irrigation has proven effective in reducing fertilizer and pesticide costs by approximately 40%, effectively controlling pest infestations, and saving water and energy consumption by 25-30% compared to outdoor cultivation. Given the obvious benefits, farmers like Huang Van Diu are looking forward to continued government support to expand their net cropping area, further improving agricultural productivity and sustainability.
The Duyen Hai region is an example of the transformative potential of strategic allocation of support capital in agricultural development. Using these funds, farmers have not only diversified their production structures, but also adopted modern technologies, resulting in increased incomes and the adoption of sustainable farming practices.
