Vietnam’s fruit export industry continues to grow, with April 2024 seeing a staggering 33.9% increase in export value compared to the same period in 2023. Cumulative exports for the first four months of 2024 were $1.804 billion, a significant increase of 32.1%. from the previous year. According to Vinafruit, the durian segment leads the way, contributing significantly to export revenues exceeding $1.8 billion.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reports positive growth trends in fruit exports to key markets, with China, South Korea, the United States and Thailand leading the way in export volumes. Vietnam is actively negotiating with China to expand the range of officially exported fruits, while businesses continue to explore opportunities in major markets such as the US, EU, Australia and South Korea.
Vinafruit highlights the key role of durian in boosting export earnings, with more than $2.2 billion generated last year from durian alone. Thanks to increased planting area and improved packaging equipment, exports of durian and other fruits are expected to continue to grow in 2024.
Experts believe that the durian industry in Vietnam has huge potential, especially in terms of exporting frozen products to China. The regulatory framework aimed at diversifying durian products is seen as an opportunity for businesses to increase competitiveness in processing and exporting.
Maximizing these opportunities depends on maintaining high quality standards and professional manufacturing practices. By constantly improving technology and product quality, the Vietnamese durian industry can not only strengthen its position, but also surpass competitors and dominate the Chinese market.
Moreover, global demand for durian, extending beyond Asia, offers significant opportunities for expansion. However, ensuring consistent quality and meeting market needs remain the most important factors for sustainable growth.
Vietnam’s fruit export sector, especially durian production, represents lucrative prospects for farmers and exporters. Through strategic investments in processing and diversification, as well as adherence to quality standards, Vietnam can strengthen its position as a key player in the global fruit market.
