Strategic diversification and robust agricultural practices position Andalusia at the forefront of Spain’s fruit and vegetable export sector.
In 2024, Spain’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports experienced an 8% increase compared to the previous year, as reported by the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers and Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers, and Live Plants (FEPEX). Andalusia emerged as the leading export region, contributing 3.9 million tonnes and generating €6.746 billion in revenue, reflecting a 7% growth in volume and a 3% rise in value from 2023.
Regional Export Performance
- Valencian Community: Exported 3.5 million tonnes (+9%) with a revenue of €4.646 billion (+6%).
- Murcia: Shipped 2.4 million tonnes (+12%), earning €3.269 billion (+6%).
- Catalonia: Dispatched 994,136 tonnes (+4%) with earnings of €1.289 billion (+4%).
Notably, Andalusia’s export growth is attributed to its diversified agricultural portfolio and expansion into international markets. The region’s strategic efforts have resulted in a 14.5% increase in food and beverage exports, totaling €15.7 billion, significantly outpacing the national average. All eight Andalusian provinces reported growth, with seven achieving record export figures. Seville led with €4.276 billion in exports, while Málaga reached €1.7 billion, marking an 18.1% increase. This success is partly due to market diversification, with notable export increases to the United States, China, and Australia.
Andalusia’s leadership in Spain’s fresh produce exports underscores the effectiveness of its strategic diversification and robust agricultural practices. The region’s ability to adapt to market demands and expand its international presence has solidified its position as a key player in the global agricultural sector.
