Arava Open Day 2023-The largest agricultural exhibition in Israel

A mini cauliflower eaten fresh from the field, especially crunchy lettuce, special new varieties of vegetables and fruits, an innovative autonomous tractor, ‘tracers’ for moving solar panels, and a multitude of varieties, developments and advanced equipment that will be displayed for the first time at the largest agricultural exhibition in Israel in the Arava. Free entry

On February 15, 2023 will mark the 31st anniversary of the Arava Agricultural Exhibition and the open day at the Yair Station in the Middle Arava. Over the years, the exhibition has established itself as a unique, professional and colorful exhibition that attracts a large audience from the Arava and from all parts of the country. Visitors to the exhibition will be exposed to about 200 businesses and companies showcasing innovations in the fields of agriculture and tangential fields.

The exhibition will take place on dates 15-16.2.2023 at the Central and Northern Arava R & D-Tamar, in the pavilions of 200 companies from Israel and around the world – in the fields of agriculture, gardening, transportation, environmental quality, solar energy, and more. Also this year, the first Arava Conference for Innovation in Agriculture will be held and the Outstanding Startup Competition. There will also be a farmers market for direct sale, food complexes and more.

Among the presenting companies:
Gedera-Syngenta Seeds, one of the leading companies in the vegetable seed industry in the world, marks its 70th anniversary. The company, which invests over דולר 100 million a year in research and development in the field of vegetables and seeds, will launch the new breed of ‘Mini Cauliflower’ ISTEM, which originated in England, and has already won an ‘Innovative Product’ award at the ‘Prot Logistics’ exhibition in Berlin 2022.

The’mini cauliflower’ weight is only 80 grams, easily harvested as a whole bouquet containing between 9-10 mini cauliflower, each wrapped in a leaf, and you can immediately eat all parts of the cauliflower, leaves and stalk as they are, in their entirety directly from the field, without the need for cooking or seasoning. It also reduces food waste. This is unlike the large, familiar cauliflowers, which need to be separated from the leaves and cleaned. The ‘Mini Cauliflower’is particularly delicious and rich in nutty, crunchy flavours, rich in dietary fibre and vitamin C. The stalk and leaves are thick and crisp, and can be combined in healthy and fresh salads or in making stuffed animals and other stews.

The new’ cauliflower mini ‘began to be grown in the’ Carmelim ‘ecological farm in the growing areas in the Megiddo area, covering only about 10 dunams in the first phase, with 1,500 kilos of’ cauliflower mini’, which can already be seen in select greengrocer’s, and in the future the growing areas will be expanded. It will also introduce ‘Gedera-Syngenta Seeds’ – new curvy varieties,’Robaggio’ – red crunchy lettuce and’Cannaggio’ – green-coloured lettuce, rich in flavour and vitamins and adding colour to the salad.

Bayer Ag.In Seeds ‘will launch at the exhibition, an innovative development of watermelon’ Rocket ‘ – a new species developed for 8 years, which excels at a higher-than-average sweetness and was harvested about a month before the start of the watermelon collecting season in Israel. The Rocket will be on the shelf as early as May.

Oded Ronen, Northern Region representative of A.B. Seeds specializes in growing watermelon and cucumber and industrial crops: “The strain was developed for about eight years, with most of the cultivation devoted to ensuring a sweet taste that would be well above the Brix average, which is a measure of the concentration of sugar and sweetness in fruits and vegetables, wines and more. Happily, the development of the sweet variety was successful, reaching a particularly high brix value of -12.3-and even 13, with an average Brix index of watermelon at 8-9.”

Benzi Carmona, Director of vegetable market Development at Bayer Israel: “April and May are considered poor in terms of fruit supply. The watermelon ‘Rocket’ was developed so that its ripening is ahead of its average time, it can be collected immediately upon the first ripening as early as May, and its taste is sweet, unlike the fruits whose taste is not outstanding at the beginning of the season. Watermelon Rocket will open the spring season as early as May, and will complete the months when there is not a wide supply of fruit on the market.”

The Seed Company, a global pioneer in the seed industry, is launching Doria-a Tamar tomato for picking in the cluster! And a series of new tomato varieties, coloured radishes and ‘Purple Heart’lettuce:

Doria: The next generation of the Israeli tomato – a new tomato variety from the Tamar family that brings with it a row – the first tamar tomato picked in a cluster and not isolated, delicious, healthy, with solidity, long shelf life, excellent preservation of the plant and bright red fruit and attractive.

The launch of the first-of-its-kind yellow ‘Whitney’ tomato: delicious, an impressive yellow fruit, solid and crunchy with a high crop and strong plant.

Maggie’s Tomato, celebrating a decade and renewed: Maggie is known as a quality Israeli tomato, with a juicy green gel that gives it a fine taste and rich aroma. The Maggie variety is grown throughout the year nationwide in Israel among selected farmers and is packaged in closed and marked packaging, with new branding in honor of the Maggie Decade celebrations.

New radish varieties: ‘Vitale’ in white and ‘Parfella’ in purple: round radishes for growing in open and closed areas, with impressive and strong colors, suitable for growing all year round with a high crop and excellent internal quality.

Purple Heart Red Romaine Lettuce: A particularly crunchy and delicious lettuce with an intense red color that penetrates the depth of the leaf.

Soli Industries will launch two innovative designs of tomato varieties: Cherry Tomato’Jelly’- a tomato with a rich and extremely solid flavor and Eshkol tomato ‘Juliet’- with a bold red color, excellent solidity and delicate flavor.

New zucchini, lettuce and pepper from Afael Agri – a leader for more than 45 years in the field of agriculture in Israel, Baklum, development, production and marketing of vegetable seeds, while in international cooperation with the Dutch company Enza Zaden. Zucchini “Matisse” – a zucchini type with strong growth, an upright and open plant, rich in crop, with juicy fruit, dark green and brilliant color. Crispiano lettuce – dark green crisp lettuce is suitable for growing at a hydroponic interface and in the ground, in the open, all year round. Shubert Pepper-A new red pepper resistant to the changing weather conditions in Israel is mainly passive for cracking and heat damage. The pepper has a thick wall, rich flavors and is suitable for filling and Middle Eastern cooking.

At the exhibition, the innovative autonomous tractor TTV9340, which operates alone in the field with maximum precision, will be displayed for the first time, by Deutsch of Germany, which imports Carso Motors Agricultural Equipment and machinery.

Solargic will introduce the latest “trackers” to move solar panels that track the sun in a smart and cost – effective way, generating between 15% and 25% more electricity than a static system. Solargic produces solar trackers for photovoltaic (PV) systems and sophisticated control and management systems.
