This year, a plentiful harvest of apples is predicted at about 130-135 thousand tons.
Georgia expects an apple harvest in the amount of 130-135 thousand tons, said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia, at a meeting with representatives of the industry.
Apples, along with peaches, grapes and tangerines, are one of the main export items of Georgian agricultural products.
“A plentiful apple harvest of about 130,000-135,000 tons is predicted this year. However, frequent rains have had a significant impact on the quality of apples. In the current season, they plan to supply about 50,000 tons of apples to processing enterprises for the production of concentrate,” Shamugia said.
At a meeting held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the parties agreed that in the near future a balanced decision would be made to ensure the uninterrupted process of harvesting apples and their delivery.
From August 1, 2021 to February 20, 2022, 5,308 tons of apples worth $3.4 million were exported from Georgia, the Ministry of Agriculture of the country said in a statement.
