As the planting season approaches, farmers in Krasnoyarsk Krai are set to benefit from substantial government subsidies aimed at boosting potato and open-field vegetable production. The regional Ministry of Agriculture has approved subsidies for 38 agricultural producers, including individual entrepreneurs and farming enterprises. A total of 10.2 million rubles has been allocated for per-hectare support, while 18.6 million rubles will go toward potato and vegetable production subsidies. These funds are expected to reach farmers by early May.
Expanding Potato Cultivation and Market Trends
This year, the planned potato planting area in Krasnoyarsk Krai is 28,600 hectares, with 6,200 hectares managed by organized agricultural sectors—similar to last year’s figures. However, due to favorable market conditions, some farmers are already considering expanding their potato cultivation areas.
According to Ilya Vasilyev, the regional Minister of Agriculture, potato farming remains a promising sector, supported by investments in machinery, equipment, and large-scale projects. The federal program “Development of Vegetable and Potato Farming” has been financing elite seed production, increased cultivation, and agrotechnical work—including fertilizers, pesticides, and fuel—since 2023.
Additional Support Programs for Farmers
Beyond federal subsidies, Krasnoyarsk Krai offers additional support through initiatives like:
- “Our Farmer” – grants up to 8 million rubles
- “Agro-Startup” – grants up to 5 million rubles
These programs require only a 10% co-investment from farmers, making them accessible for small-scale producers. Additional subsidies are available for building and modernizing storage facilities, ensuring better post-harvest preservation.
Regional Production and Current Readiness
Key potato and vegetable-producing districts include Beryozovsky, Yemelyanovsky, Sukhobuzimsky, Mansky, Shushensky, Ermakovsky, Uzhursky, and Bogotolsky.
As of now, farmers are fully equipped with seed potatoes, while vegetable seed availability stands at 58.9%. Annual contracts with suppliers ensure that remaining seeds are delivered by April-May, maintaining the region’s traditional planting schedule.
Krasnoyarsk Krai’s agricultural sector is poised for growth, backed by strong government support and increasing farmer interest in expanding potato production. With millions in subsidies, advanced agrotechnical programs, and accessible grants, the region is strengthening its position in Russia’s vegetable and potato markets.
