The Belaya Dacha Volga project in the Astrakhan region marks a significant step in the agricultural development of southern Russia. In 2024, the company harvested 1,360 tons of iceberg lettuce, but this year, it aims for over 2,500 tons—a near doubling of output. Additionally, green onion production is set to surge from ~625 tons (assuming an 8x increase from 5,000 tons planned) to 5,000 tons, meeting rising consumer demand for fresh, locally grown produce.
Diverse Crop Portfolio and Seasonal Adjustments
Beyond iceberg lettuce, Belaya Dacha Volga cultivates Romaine, Frisée, and the unique ‘Rodichiu’ variety in autumn. The early-maturing green onion variety ‘Candy’ (harvested in just 80 days) ensures rapid market turnover.
To combat summer heat disruptions, the company is experimenting with cauliflower and greenhouse tomatoes, aiming to enhance yield resilience and quality. In 2023, test runs with cauliflower proved successful, and 2025 plans include optimizing these crops further.
Infrastructure and Market Reach
With 265 hectares under cultivation (60 ha for lettuce, 80 ha for green onions), Belaya Dacha Volga is also constructing an 8,500-ton onion storage facility to support expanded production. The company supplies major Russian retail chains, ensuring nationwide distribution of fresh, eco-friendly greens.
A Model for Sustainable Growth
Belaya Dacha Volga exemplifies how strategic investment, crop diversification, and infrastructure development can drive agricultural productivity. By leveraging advanced agronomic practices and expanding storage capabilities, the company is set to meet growing domestic demand while maintaining high-quality standards.
