Uzbekistan’s export of cabbage and onions has notably bolstered its fruit and vegetable trade, accounting for a fifth of the total export revenue at $85.3 million in the first five months of the year. According to the Agency of Statistics, from January to May, Uzbekistan shipped 212.7 thousand tons of onions worth $44.1 million and 158.8 thousand tons of cabbage valued at $41.2 million.
During this period, the country exported a total of 722.1 thousand tons of fruit and vegetable products, marking a 10.4% increase (or 68.3 thousand tons) compared to the same period in 2023. The total export value of fruit and vegetable products amounted to $420.1 million, reflecting a 2.6% increase from the previous year.
Fruit and vegetable exports comprised 3.9% of Uzbekistan’s total export volume, with major markets including Russia (32.7%), Pakistan (19.7%), Kazakhstan (15.3%), and China (7.8%).
The surge in cabbage and onion exports underscores Uzbekistan’s growing role in the global agricultural market. With continued efforts to enhance production quality and expand market access, Uzbekistan is well-positioned to capitalize on increasing demand for its produce.
