The Stavropol Territory is among the top ten among other subjects of the country in the production of vegetables, and about 2% of the all-Russian gross potato harvest is also grown by the efforts of Stavropol farmers.
“The harvesting of open field vegetables and potatoes has been completed. As part of the “borscht set” of potatoes, 140 thousand tons were harvested, vegetables 123.1 thousand tons. Our region is more than 100% provided with such crops as onion, tomato, cucumber, taking into account the protected ground,” said Elena Tambovtseva, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory.
Agricultural producers increasingly began to pay attention to the cultivation of carrots. This vegetable is in great demand in the agricultural market and has a lot of useful properties. So, in the current agricultural season, 10.7 thousand tons of carrots were harvested from an area of 378 hectares, and the average yield in the region increased by 67% compared to 2021 and amounted to 283 c/ha. About 25% of the gross production of carrots is the contribution of peasant (farmer) households.
While the harvesting of open field vegetables and potatoes is completed, it is time to store part of the harvest, which will be sold in the winter. Most farms have their own storage facilities, their capacity in the whole region is about 138 thousand tons.
In order to support agricultural producers of vegetables and potatoes in the Stavropol Territory, state support measures are in place within the framework of the regional state program “Development of Agriculture”. So over three years, over 442 million rubles were allocated for these purposes. Starting from 2023, a separate priority program for the development of vegetable growing will be allocated, which will include a set of state support measures that are attractive to vegetable growers in the region, such as support for the production of potatoes and vegetables in the open field, unrelated support in the field of vegetable growing, and the production of greenhouse vegetables produced using additional lighting technology , support for elite seed production of potatoes and (or) vegetable crops in open ground.
Recall that Governor Vladimir Vladimirov focused on the need to increase irrigated land in the region and the implementation of relevant national projects in the agro-industrial complex.
