Fruits infected with brown moniliose rot arrived in the capital of Karelia from Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor of Karelia in July checked Petrozavodsk fruit wholesalers. Brown moniliose rot (Monilinia fructicola (Winter) Honey) was found in two import lots of peaches. Peaches were brought from Turkey and Azerbaijan.
The presence of a quarantine pest has been confirmed by laboratory tests. The owners of the fruits decided to destroy them, the press service of the regional Rosselkhoznadzor writes.
Note that the causative agents of tree fruit rot are a group of Monilia fungi that infect leaves and fruits and cause rotting of most of the crop. Popularly, this devastating stone disease is more commonly known as brown rot or mummified fruit. Fruit rot is very difficult to treat.
It should be reminded that earlier in the stores of Petrozavodsk the control authorities found peaches and apricots infected with peach codling moth. These fruits will also be destroyed.
