John Deere bolsters its lineup of Frontier equipment with the addition of several implements including cultipackers, three-point shank rippers and overseeders. These are implements commonly used by large-property owners and producers who need smaller-sized equipment to work behind compact or utility tractors, or to work in small fields.
Frontier CP1148L, CP1172L, CP1572, CP1596 and CP1512 Cultipackers are compatible with compact and utility tractors ranging from 20 to 125 PTO horsepower. A 4-inch (10.16 cm) square mainframe and 16-inch (40.64 cm) cast-iron packer wheels enable Frontier Cultipackers to pulverize clods and gently create firm seedbeds with fine particles at the seed depth and a layer of loose mulch on the surface. Enhanced soil conditions help slow evaporation and conserve moisture while promoting uniform planting depth, maximum seed-to-soil contact and improved yields.
Where seed has been broadcast, Frontier Cultipackers break up clods and firm the soil around the seeds. “Shallow seed placement and improved seed-to-soil contact created by the cultipackers enhances seed germination,” said Scott Geier, marketing manager, partnered products for John Deere. “If you’re growing crops, gardening or planting wildlife food plots, Frontier Cultipackers are sized right for your needs.” Working widths are available from 4-, 6-, 8- and 12-foot (1.22, 1.83, 2.44 and 3.66 m) and allow for easy transport on roads and through gates. The CP1148L and CP1172L are Limited Category I compatible. The CP1572 is Category I compatible. The CP1596 is Category I and Category II compatible and the CP152 is Category I compatible.
Frontier SR1201, SR1202 and SR1203 3-point Shank Rippers can fracture hardpan as deep as 18 inches (45.72 cm) to aid in root penetration and decrease water runoff. Frontier Shank Rippers are compatible with John Deere Compact Utility and Utility Tractors and are available in one-, two- or three-shank configurations.
The heat-treated shanks can be moved to fit various row spacings, are protected by shear bolts and feature replaceable wear tips. The implement’s Category I and Category II quick-hitch compatibility simplifies connections between the tractor and shank ripper. “Frontier 3-point Shank Rippers are easy to adjust, easy to maintain and useable in a wide variety of cropping systems,” Geier stated.
Frontier GS1148, GS1160, GS1172 and GS1184 Ground-Driven Overseeders are commonly used for primary seeding, overseeding and other applications that include establishing cool and warm-season grasses and wildlife food plots. “Large-property owners and small-acreage farmers and ranchers can use Frontier Ground-Driven Overseeders to plant anything from rye and oats to prairie grasses, legumes, wild flowers, radishes, soybeans and similar crops,” Geier explained.
Available in 4-, 5-, 6 and 7-foot (1.22, 1.52, 1.83 and 2.13 m) wide models, Frontier Ground-Driven Overseeders can be equipped with three seed-box options fitted with fluted seed cups and an agitator for accurate, uniform delivery of turf grass seeds. The four models include spiked rollers or disc blades that can be set to provide more or less cultivation of the soil. Seeding rates can be adjusted as needed by engaging or disengaging the seed boxes on the overseeders. Cultipacker options can also be added for good seed-to-soil contact and soil finishing.
