Located in Lara, Boomaroo Nurseries impressed visitors with its state-of-the-art automation in greenhouse seed production. With over 30 years of experience, Boomaroo is a leading supplier of vegetable seedlings and Greenlife products in Australia. Delegates witnessed automated handling systems that enhance quality, consistency, traceability, and efficiency across a wide range of products. Jo van Niekerk, the National Sales Manager, highlighted the company’s capability to produce up to two million potted plants annually, leveraging advanced technologies to optimize production and maintain high standards.
Tripod Farmers: Innovating with LaserWeeder Technology
At Tripod Farmers, delegates explored the innovative use of LaserWeeder technology, a revolutionary approach to weed management. Joint Managing Director Angela Candeloro shared insights into their family business, which spans over 120 years and farms 1,000 acres across Western Melbourne and Gippsland. The LaserWeeder, developed by Carbon Robotics, targets weeds with precision using lasers, minimizing herbicide use and soil disruption. Mark Zahnlecker from Carbon Robotics explained how automated robots reduce labor costs and enhance crop health, emphasizing sustainability and higher yields. Tripod Farmers reported significant weed reduction, demonstrating the efficacy and potential of this cutting-edge technology.
Boratto Farms: Embracing Technological Integration
The tour continued at Boratto Farms, where the Boratto family showcased their commitment to integrating new technologies into farming practices. Established in 1966 and spanning approximately 400 acres, Boratto Farms focuses on optimizing crop management through advanced technologies and innovative fertilization methods. Owner/Director Dino Boratto emphasized the importance of precision agriculture tailored to specific crop needs and environmental conditions. Delegates learned about new software systems enhancing farm operations, ensuring compliance, and prioritizing safety through streamlined visitor management processes.
