Ending his duties as a teacher and head of SMP Negeri 6 Ambon did not make him lose income.
The reason is that the hydroponic vegetables he has grown since retirement, right in 2020, are bearing fruit.
The owner of the name Yan Mahulette made a profit of up to millions of rupiah once harvested.
“One harvest can be Rp 3 million, harvest is usually 1.5 months, ” said Mahulette when interviewed TribunAmbon.com at his hydroponic house, in Kezia’s hallway, Friday (3/2/2023).
The man born in 1960 said he could plant as many as 1300 saplings.
For now there are 4 types of vegetables cultivated with hydroponic methods.
Namely, Caisin mustard, spoon pakcoy, White pakcoy, and also lettuce.
“This can plant approximately 1300s but if it is not all to. If now 4 types first, ” he explained.
He continued, his hydroponic vegetables are sold to neighbors around, but there are also those who order from outside.
Sometimes there are those who have ordered before harvest time.
The price was only Rp 10 thousand per bunch.
“Those who buy local residents, there are also friends in Skip because the house used to be there, sometimes also sell it to those who want to fund businesses,” he added.
Mahulette told, being a hydroponic farmer is a way to stay productive in old age.
