Seeking a Visionary Leader to Propel the Tomato Industry Forward
The Florida Tomato Exchange, the Florida Tomato Growers Exchange, and the Florida Tomato Committee are in search of a new executive vice president to lead their organizations and support the state’s tomato growers, packers, and shippers. This leadership transition comes as Michael Schadler, the current executive vice president, prepares to leave his role to join the Washington Apple Commission in September.
A Crucial Time for Leadership in the U.S. Tomato Industry
Michael Schadler has served the Florida Tomato Exchange (FTE) since 2017, playing a pivotal role in navigating issues such as international trade disputes, agricultural workforce challenges, crop protection, the Farm Bill, and food safety. As Schadler moves on, the need for a strong, experienced leader to continue this critical work is paramount. “We wish Michael well and congratulate him on his new position with the Washington apple industry,” stated J.M. Procacci, chairman of the Florida Tomato Exchange. “This is a critical time for the U.S. tomato industry, so we must find the right candidate to pick up where Michael is leaving off.”
A Multifaceted Role with Broad Industry Impact
The new executive vice president will oversee not only the FTE but also the Florida Tomato Growers Exchange and the Florida Tomato Committee. This dynamic position involves managing government relations, enforcing quality and packing standards, supporting research and education efforts, and promoting the consumption of Florida tomatoes. “Between the two exchanges and the Florida Tomato Committee, this is a dynamic position that gets to touch all components of the Florida tomato industry – everything from working with tomato breeders at the University of Florida to representing the industry in Washington, D.C.,” noted Tony DiMare, vice chairman of the Florida Tomato Exchange. “It’s a unique opportunity and a position that can be very impactful for our industry.”
The Search for a Qualified Leader
The search for a new leader is being conducted with urgency, with applications accepted through July 15, 2024, or until a suitable candidate pool is identified. The associations aim for the new executive vice president to begin their tenure in August. Interested candidates can find a full position description on LinkedIn or JoeProduce.com.
This leadership role promises a unique opportunity to shape the future of the Florida tomato industry, influencing key areas from regulatory compliance to market expansion. The associations are looking for a visionary leader ready to champion the interests of Florida’s tomato growers and drive the industry towards continued success and innovation.
