A new variety of sweet berries was bred by scientists of the Sverdlovsk horticultural breeding station, a structural subdivision of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution Urfa Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The name was given a sonorous – “Fast and the Furious”.
An employee of the agricultural research center collects a rich harvest from the garden. This is a new variety of garden strawberry, which is usually called strawberry or victoria. Ural breeders worked on breeding large sweet berries for 12 years: they crossed “Nightingale” with “Totem” and, as a result, got a new variety. The name was given a sonorous – “Fast and the Furious”.
Olga Pavlova, junior researcher at the Sverdlovsk horticultural selection station: “It is distinguished by a large berry, a large yield, and drought resistance – in recent years, we have seen a trend towards hot summers and low rainfall.”
The variety turned out to be prolific: with proper care, about 90 centners of strawberries can be harvested from one hectare. “Forsage” ripens in mid-July. In the new season, it will be grown not only in the Urals, but also in the Nizhny Novgorod, Kirov regions and other regions of Russia.
