Local Producer Boosts Vegetable Offerings in Collaboration with Major Retailer
Gilfresh Produce, a prominent horticultural company based in County Armagh, is set to significantly expand its vegetable supply to Asda’s 16 outlets throughout Northern Ireland. This strategic move will see Gilfresh provide over 1,000 tonnes of root vegetables and 500,000 units of brassica and salad varieties, bolstering the retailer’s local produce offerings.
A Growing Partnership
Since its inception in 1965, Gilfresh Produce has undergone substantial growth. Originally established by the Gilpin family with just 4 acres of cultivation, the company has evolved under the leadership of William Gilpin, who joined in 1999 and currently serves as Managing Director. Today, Gilfresh operates from its Loughgall base with a dedicated team of 140 employees. The company has expanded its range to include 21 different vegetable types, such as cabbage, carrots, and swede, catering to local market demands during the growing season.
Gilfresh has maintained a long-standing partnership with Asda since 2008, a collaboration that has seen the company’s vegetable range diversify and expand in response to market needs. The latest agreement will enhance Asda’s vegetable supply chain, providing customers with a robust selection of locally grown produce.

The 2024 growing season presented challenges for Gilfresh, including delays in planting due to adverse weather conditions. Despite these obstacles, William Gilpin remains optimistic about the harvest.
