Graffiti Radish: A Small Innovation with Big Potential

Виктор Ковалев

Bringing Excitement to the Market with Graffiti Radishes

The agricultural sector is constantly evolving, with new innovations and products aimed at meeting consumer demands and market trends. One such innovation is the graffiti radish, a specialty crop that, while still small in scale, holds significant promise for surprising and delighting customers. Erik de Jong of Jongfresh shares insights into the current state of radish sales and the potential of the graffiti radish in the market.

Despite the fluctuations in weather, this spring has been particularly favorable for radish cultivation. According to Erik de Jong, “Climatically, we have had a very controlled spring, barring a few hot days. That has done wonders for the quality of the radishes. Consequently, customers are very appreciative.” This controlled climate has led to high-quality produce that meets consumer expectations, maintaining strong demand even after the midsummer celebrations in Scandinavia. “Demand has actually gone through very well. After the midsummer celebrations in Scandinavia, we saw a small price dip for a while. But now the market has returned to a nice level,” Erik explained.

Jongfresh, a company known for its diverse range of radishes, including red, white, purple, white-tip, and lilac varieties, has recently added the graffiti radish to its lineup. “We are constantly expanding to surprise our customers. This spotted graffiti radish is still a relatively small item, and we do produce too many yet, but we see a good demand from the market,” Erik noted. The graffiti radish is primarily being marketed within the hospitality sector, which often serves as a stepping stone for wider adoption by wholesalers and retailers.

The company’s efforts and innovations were recently recognized during a visit by Afke van Rijn, director general Environment and International at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The visit highlighted the importance of greenhouse horticulture and the functioning of the Licensing, Enforcement, and Supervision system. “We were very honoured by this visit to our company. She was very interested in how greenhouse horticulture is doing,” Erik shared. The discussions at Jongfresh’s location provided valuable insights into environmental and energy concerns, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

Jongfresh’s dedication to quality and innovation is evident in its approach to expanding its product range and maintaining strong market demand. The introduction of the graffiti radish not only diversifies their offerings but also positions the company as a leader in bringing unique and high-quality produce to the market.
