Increased tourism and local consumption drive a significant rise in the need for fresh produce across Greek markets.
The demand for fresh fruits and vegetables in Greece has skyrocketed, with reports indicating a fourfold increase in consumption. This surge is particularly pronounced in tourist-heavy regions and islands, where daily deliveries ensure consistent supply without shortages.
According to a statement from the Athens Central Vegetable Market Traders Association, the spike in demand has been met efficiently by local enterprises affiliated with the association. These businesses play a pivotal role in collaborating closely with producers to maintain high-quality standards and competitive pricing.
The association emphasizes its commitment to meeting the needs of hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, and street markets, all of which are striving to keep up with the escalating demand from both international tourists and local residents.
Greece’s tourism and hospitality sectors are experiencing robust growth this year, contributing significantly to the country’s GDP and state revenue. Nikos Kalogris, President of the Athens Central Vegetable Market Traders Association, highlighted the strategic importance of the market in supporting economic activities and ensuring sustainable supply chains.
