Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan, together with journalists from the republican television, visited the village of Chirkey, Buynaksky district. This is a village with a rich horticultural tradition, where peach is one of the main agricultural brands.
There are a lot of fruit plantations in the village, peach orchards alone occupy about 300 hectares. Almost everyone knows the basics of gardening in Chirkei, skills and abilities are passed down from generation to generation, and each family has its own garden plot. The Chirkeyans give a lot of effort and time to get a good harvest. At present, the peach harvest in the village is in full swing.
In Chirkei, various varieties of peach are cultivated, each with its own specific taste. Most of all, the Golden Jubilee variety is in use, the harmonious taste of which is familiar to the general consumer. It competes with the local variety “Khadzhimikir”, which the Chirkeyans call “the king of the peach orchard”. The fruits of this variety are large and fleshy, sweet, with a pleasant sourness.
During the harvest season, wholesale buyers from different cities of the republic and other regions of the country come to Chirkey. Chirkey peaches have also been chosen by tourists coming to the Sulak Canyon, the guests of Dagestan respect the fruits, the stone of which is easily separated from the pulp.
According to the data of the All-Russian Agricultural Census of 2016, there are about two thousand hectares of peach orchards in Dagestan, most of which are concentrated in personal subsidiary plots of the population. Significant areas of peach orchards are located in Gergebilsky, Untsukulsky, Suleiman-Stalsky, Buynaksky and in some other areas. Currently, harvesting continues in the republic, 3.5 thousand tons of peach have been harvested.
