The picturesque landscapes of Stavropol, Russia, are currently adorned with a sight that brings hope and prosperity to the agricultural community – the commencement of sugar beet harvesting. Pioneering this annual ritual, farmers from the Novoalexandrovskiy district are reaping the first fruits of their labor. According to the Stavropol Krai Ministry of Agriculture, the average yield of sugar beets in the region has surged past an impressive 492 tons per hectare.
The heart of this endeavor lies in the fields of the Novoalexandrovskiy, Izobilnenskiy, and Kochubeevskiy districts, which boast the largest plantations of sugar beets across Stavropol. This agricultural gem is hailed as one of the strategic crops safeguarding the nation’s production security. Furthermore, the regional Ministry of Agriculture is actively expanding the inventory of domestically developed beet seeds, under the vigilant eye of the ministry itself.
Elena Tambovtseva, the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Stavropol, reveals, “Over 30 agricultural entities across five districts are involved in sugar beet production in the region, utilizing approximately 34,000 hectares of land. The largest share is held by Novoalexandrovskiy district with around 14,000 hectares, closely followed by Izobilnenskiy and Kochubeevskiy districts, each cultivating 8,000 hectares of sugar beets.”
Notably, the Izobilnenskiy district also hosts a sugar beet processing facility, which has already processed 1,500 tons of produce since the start of the 2023 harvesting campaign. Experts have observed a remarkable increase in the sugar content of the beets, reaching an impressive 15.3%.
Governor Vladimir Vladimirov places considerable emphasis on supporting Stavropol’s agrarian community. It has been reported that more than 60% of the funds allocated for farm development, equipment acquisition, and crop insurance have already been disbursed to agricultural producers.
As the sugar beet harvest continues to unfold across Stavropol’s fertile lands, it symbolizes not only an agricultural milestone but also the collective dedication of farmers, agronomists, agricultural engineers, and scientists working in unison to fuel the nation’s sustenance.
