In the process of harvesting, the interests of both winegrowers and entrepreneurs will be protected, the minister promised.
Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia met with the leaders of the country’s wineries and discussed with them issues related to the 2022 grape harvest.
As Shamugia noted, the Georgian government will take all the necessary decisions for the organized management of the rtveli process. In the process of harvesting, the interests of both winegrowers and entrepreneurs will be protected, the minister noted.
“At the meeting, we discussed problems related to the harvest. Our main goal is to maintain the continuity of the development of the field of viticulture and winemaking, the dynamics of stable development. The state has a strategy for the development of viticulture and winemaking, within which a number of supporting projects are being implemented, both financially and marketing support,” Shamugia said.
The minister stressed that this year, as in previous years, the harvesting process should be successful and, despite the challenges that the difficult political situation in the region has created for the industry, positive results will soon be achieved through joint efforts and cooperation between the state and the private sector.
Levan Mekhuzla, chairman of the National Wine Agency, in turn noted that the forecast for this year’s grape harvest reaches 300,000 tons. Up to 300 wine companies will accept and process grapes.
As in previous years, as part of the 2022 harvest, a coordination headquarters will be launched, which will open at the end of August in the city of Telavi and will work around the clock.
