Two farms participate in the experiment – in the Kostroma and Krasnoselsky districts.
Import substitution: Kostroma farmers are testing new domestic varieties of vegetable crops
Beets, carrots and cabbage of Russian selection were planted in the fields. And nearby, to make it easier to observe and compare, they placed Dutch counterparts. Varieties bred in the Netherlands were taken intentionally – as they are resistant to diseases, give a high yield and have a long shelf life.
According to the Rosselkhoztsentr, whose specialists supervise the tests, at this stage of research, our vegetables are in no way inferior to imported ones. But the final conclusions will be made later, in the fall.
If the testing of varieties is considered successful, then farmers may decide to plant them in significantly larger volumes – not on one hectare, as now, but already on dozens. And they will produce products – exclusively from Russian seeds.
