In the Tomsk region, the growth of prices for certain groups of food products slowed down. In particular, prices for tomatoes, cucumbers and vegetables of the “borscht set” fell, according to the Tomsk Branch of the Bank of Russia.
It is noted that the supply of imported fresh vegetables from Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, greenhouse vegetables from Russian regions has increased. Their supply has increased on the Tomsk shelves, as a result, the annual growth in prices for cabbage, carrots, tomatoes and onions has slowed down. Beets and cucumbers have fallen in price. Weekend fairs were held in May, which also increased the supply of vegetables.
“Compared to April, prices for some imported fruits have also decreased. Pears fell in price more than others – by 8.7% per month. Bananas in May cost 3.7% less than in April, oranges could be bought 2% cheaper,” commented Elena Petrochenko, Head of the Tomsk Branch of the Bank of Russia.
The main reason for this, experts say, is the strengthening of the ruble and building new logistics routes for the supply of goods to Russia.
