FV Seleqt, a division of Farmhouse International, is set to make a significant impact in the European vegetable market with the introduction of the Crunchino® pointed pepper. This new product, developed by Eminent Seeds, is being commercially grown in the Netherlands for the first time this year and is already generating excitement among retailers and consumers in Germany, Finland, and Sweden. In this article, we explore the features of the Crunchino® pepper, its market potential, and future production plans.

A Distinctive Product in the Pointed Pepper Segment

The Crunchino® pointed pepper is poised to distinguish itself from other peppers available on the market. According to Norman van Domburg, Product Manager at FV Seleqt, the Crunchino® offers a range of appealing features that set it apart from the standard pointed peppers. This new variety is available in three vibrant colors—orange, brown, and olive green—and boasts a crisp, crunchy texture that makes it a perfect choice for snacking, salads, and grilling.

Van Domburg emphasizes that the Crunchino® pepper not only meets the consumer demand for fresh, flavorful vegetables but also offers superior taste and nutritional benefits. “With the Crunchino®, we have a truly distinctive product that is more attractive than the standard pointed pepper, especially in terms of flavor,” he states. The pepper’s appealing crunch and excellent shelf life further support its potential for success in the market.

Winter Production Plans in Morocco

To meet the anticipated high demand for the Crunchino® pepper, FV Seleqt is already planning to expand production beyond the initial 1.3-hectare trial in the Netherlands. Starting this winter, the Crunchino® will also be cultivated in Morocco on a larger scale. This strategic move aims to ensure a consistent supply of the pepper throughout the year, addressing the seasonal variations in production and helping to maintain market presence.

Van Domburg sees significant potential for the Crunchino® pepper to capture a substantial share of the market. “There is much less variety in the pepper shelf compared to other vegetables like tomatoes,” he explains. “The Crunchino® is a great addition to the pepper category, which has already seen considerable growth in recent years.”

Awards and Consumer Reception

The Crunchino® pepper has already made a notable impact in the industry, receiving the Superior Taste Award last year. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the pepper’s exceptional flavor and quality. Van Domburg recounts a personal experience that underscores the product’s appeal: “Even my five-year-old son, who is a picky eater, loved the Crunchino®. This was a clear indicator of the pepper’s broad appeal.”

Nutritional Benefits and Market Strategy

In addition to its superior taste, the Crunchino® pepper offers enhanced nutritional values compared to standard pointed peppers. FV Seleqt plans to market the Crunchino® as a premium product, featuring a mix pack that includes all three colors. The company’s market strategy is designed to highlight the pepper’s unique attributes and capitalize on the growing popularity of pointed peppers.

Van Domburg is optimistic about the Crunchino®’s future in the market. “I have high hopes for this concept,” he says. “The area of pointed peppers has grown significantly, and with the Crunchino®, we expect to capture a substantial share of this expanding segment.”

Future Prospects and Expansion

Looking ahead, FV Seleqt is focused on scaling up Crunchino® production and expanding its market reach. The company’s plans for winter production in Morocco are just the beginning of a broader strategy to establish the Crunchino® as a leading product in the pepper market. With its innovative features, proven taste, and nutritional benefits, the Crunchino® is set to make a lasting impact on the vegetable industry.
