In Russia, the harvesting of gourds is gaining momentum. Currently, about 20.7 thousand tons have been collected.
The annual production volume varies from 1.5 to 1.9 million tons, of which 35% falls on the organized sector, 65% – on the households. On average, over the past 5 years in the organizational sector, the harvest of melons and gourds is 670 thousand tons. This year, according to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture, it will not be lower than the long-term average.
Improving the approaches of farmers to cultivation technologies contributes to obtaining stable gross yields. The main types of crops grown in our country are watermelon, melon and pumpkin. The traditional leading regions are the Astrakhan Region, which accounts for almost half of all commodity production (48%), the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, the Volgograd, Orenburg, Saratov, Rostov, Voronezh Regions, as well as the Chechen Republic, the Republics of Dagestan and Crimea.
