The radish market is currently experiencing favorable conditions with a robust supply attributed to favorable weather conditions earlier in the year. Yannick Guerin from Jardins A Guérin & Fils Inc. reports that this year started strong, resulting in ample supply. Ideal weather—a combination of heat and occasional rain—has facilitated optimal growth conditions for radishes. Harvest operations commenced on May 16 with initial low volumes, scaling up significantly as of recent weeks. The harvesting season is anticipated to extend until early November, contingent upon weather conditions and the onset of frost.
Despite favorable supply conditions, the demand for radishes is slightly subdued compared to previous years. Guerin speculates that economic factors may be influencing consumer behavior, resulting in a slower movement of fruits and vegetables overall. Typically, the market experiences a gradual increase in demand leading up to late June and early July, aligning with seasonal preferences. Radishes are particularly favored during mild weather conditions, approximately 20-25 degrees Celsius, with consumer preferences shifting towards refreshing options like watermelon during hotter periods.
