On August 6, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan, Mukhtarbiy Adzhekov, and the head of the crop production department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan, Ahmed Rasulov, got acquainted with the implementation of a large investment project in the field of horticulture in the Suleiman-Stalsky district. The guests were met by the head of the municipality, Said Temirkhanov.
The largest investment project for laying intensive gardens is being implemented by Polosa LLC in the Suleiman-Stalsky district. The project started in 2016. Since that time, the laying of gardens and structures of land reclamation systems has been carried out. On an area of 1482 hectares, apple, pear, cherry orchards and walnut plantations were planted. 311 hectares of land are occupied by a super-intensive apple orchard with a planting density of more than 3,500 trees per 1 ha. An equally remarkable moment is that 1,000 hectares of a hazelnut garden have been planted; this is the largest hazelnut garden not only in Russia, but also in Europe.
The best modern agrotechnological solutions have been implemented here, and the project is a model of how our lands can and should be developed. The construction of irrigation water reservoirs and a pumping station was carried out, a system for the simultaneous application of fertilizers and drip irrigation was installed. Measures are being taken to provide infrastructure for the investment project, as well as to create a machine-technological station to ensure technological processes in agricultural production.
The growth plans are huge. In the coming years, it is planned to increase the area of intensive gardens to 1,000 hectares. We also intend to expand hazelnut plantations to 2,000 hectares. It is planned to build a fruit storage facility with a capacity of 50 thousand tons in several stages, the first of which for 11.5 thousand tons is expected to be completed in 2023.
As Mukhtarbiy Adzhekov noted, horticulture is a traditional branch of agriculture, which is of great importance for the economy of the republic. It should be noted that Dagestan has traditionally been famous for its gardens. In recent years, intensive technologies have replaced the traditional method of growing fruits in our republic.
“With proper care, it is possible to get up to 50-70 tons of fruits per hectare of an intensive orchard, depending on the variety. At the same time, such large projects encourage investors to invest in the construction of storage facilities, processing facilities, and the development of other logistics links in the agro-industrial complex. In addition, the implementation of such projects allows creating hundreds of jobs, increases tax revenues to the budgets of all levels, and also provides the population with environmentally friendly fruits. Therefore, state support measures through the implementation of land reclamation measures, reimbursement of part of the costs of laying gardens and in other moments allow maintaining a healthy investment climate in the field of horticulture in Dagestan,” the minister noted.
