The option of import substitution of potatoes was proposed in the Kostroma region.
It is noted that new varieties of potatoes are grown by the Kostroma Research Institute of Agriculture from the village of Minskoye.
At the moment, it produces mini-potatoes in six greenhouses. The harvest of this potato will replace the imported one.
In total, it is planned to create six new varieties – “Ariel”, “Sadon”, “Gulliver”, “Extra”, “Krasa Meshchery” and “Flame”.
These varieties are disease and nematode resistant and have good yields.
True, it is still impossible to grow this potato, since in order for its tubers to have a characteristic mini-size, they need to be cultivated for four years.
Recall that the import substitution of “unfriendly” potatoes began only in 2022, so the new product will go on sale only in 2026.
