The Italian company T.R. Turoni will present next week at Berlin’s FruitLogistica a series of digital hardness testers that quickly and easily measure the firmness of the flesh of fruits such as cherries and blueberries. The device simulates the pressure of a finger on the fruit pulp, without breaking or penetrating it, showing the corresponding value on the Shore scale.
Thanks to this device, it is possible to quickly, accurately and non-invasively assess the degree of firmness of the pulp of some types of fruit – a very important indicator of ripeness that must be monitored, since it directly affects the shelf life of the product. This is one of the priority aspects that needs to be controlled, from the harvest to the point of sale.
The main feature of this type of instrument is that it does not destroy the fruit being measured, unlike the penetrometer, which is a destructive measurement. The diameter of the flat tip is 5 mm. The display shows four digits on a scale from 10 to 90 Shore units in increments of 0.1.
