New vegetable storages will allow Kostroma farmers to earn more

Vegetable growers of the region willingly joined this year in the program proposed at the beginning of the year by the governor. Its essence is to grow more potatoes, carrots, cabbage and beets. And so that all this can be stored until the next harvest – to build vegetable storages, and receive compensation for costs. Sergey Sitnikov visited one of the farms today, which went on the path of modernization.

The governor begins his visit to the peasant farm with a visit to the construction site. This is the future vegetable storage. To prevent vegetables from rotting and sprouting, an electronic system with a microclimate suitable for each type will ensure their storage. The price of such luxury is comparable to the cost of a cottage – 10 million rubles. But the investments will definitely pay off, entrepreneurs are sure.

Andrey Polovinkin, head of the farm: “Many grow like this – they rent fields and sell them from the fields. The whole point is so that we can sell more expensive, make a profit and develop – we need to sell later. Then the price tag will be higher. You can see it all in stores – cabbage reaches as much as 100 rubles in April. That’s the need.”

This year, the agrarians of the region have increased the planting of potatoes and vegetables. Vegetables +34%, potatoes + 15%. Now the villagers are faced with the task of preserving all this. There are enough vegetable storages in the region, experts say. But many of them have long been outdated and do not allow vegetables to be stored for a long time. To help farms in the renewal, the region is ready to compensate entrepreneurs for part of the costs – you can return up to 40% of the money invested.

Andrey Plotnikov, Director of the Department of Agriculture: “In our region there is an order for reimbursement of agricultural producers’ costs for the purchase of machinery and equipment. And it is precisely within the framework of this procedure that we reimburse agricultural producers for the costs they incur for the purchase and modernization of equipment.”

About ten farms are now ready to join the transformation of vegetable storages. A large vegetable storage facility is being built in one of the SECS of the Kostroma district. With its commissioning, the total capacity for potato storage will increase from 7.5 to 9.5 thousand tons. Vegetable growers have already appreciated the support of the authorities.

Sergey Sitnikov, Governor of the Kostroma region: “The village reacted normally. Especially the Kostroma district – that’s the Zarechnaya part in recent years has generally risen very much. Already, some farmers have even started hooliganism. They are already plowing in the right-of-way lane. Soon everything will be plowed under the asphalt. It is profitable to engage in vegetable crops. Because they are engaged. They are doing well, well done.”

At the same time, the authorities note, the earnings of entrepreneurs will not affect the social sphere of the region in any way. Farmers will provide hospitals, schools and kindergartens with vegetables and potatoes at the lowest prices. To do this, 530 advance contracts were signed between the social sphere and agricultural enterprises in the spring. The farmers were able to spend the received 28 million rubles on sowing, and social enterprises will no longer have to puzzle over where to buy inexpensive potatoes in winter.
