In the Novosibirsk region, for the first time, a project was launched to grow leaf lettuce, including for deliveries to neighboring regions. Minister of Agriculture Yevgeny Leshchenko spoke about this in response to a question from a FederalPress correspondent.
“The volume of production is such that we can provide the whole of Siberia with this product,” the minister emphasized.
Yevgeny Leshchenko added that this year the area under potatoes has been increased by 28% in the region. Seedlings of vegetable crops, such as onions and carrots, have not yet been completed – the deadlines have moved due to weather conditions.
“I can say that the region will be provided with open ground vegetables. As for the closed ground, it is, of course, tomatoes and cucumbers. Here we are in surplus,” he said.
Leshchenko explained that the expansion of the list of cultivated crops is not yet planned due to the peculiarities of the Siberian climate.
“You need to fantasize about growing exotic crops. We literally have frosts down to -6 degrees this week. It is necessary to understand the structure of sown areas for growing crops that are ready for the Siberian climate,” summarized Evgeny Leshchenko.
