In the Volgograd region, they started collecting early vegetables in the open field. The harvest of early Beijing cabbage is already pleasing vegetable growers. Farmers planted it back in April, and now they are preparing it for sale.

Green and crisp Chinese cabbage is one of the first to please farmers this season. In one of the farms in the Sredneakhtubsky district, cleaning began just a few days ago. Brigadier Vera Romashkina proudly shows the harvest, admits that this is exactly what they were waiting for. A lot of work has been invested, the culture is quite capricious. There are almost 14 hectares under Chinese cabbage in this farm.
- We can say we are raising her like a child. We stuff peat – this is our job, we sow a seed, of course, we really like to monitor how seedlings grow, then we plant them in the ground. And now I had to clean it up at the moment. Soon we will go for sorting, we will send it through the networks, – said foreman Vera Romashkina.
For Beijing cabbage, experts say, it is important that the soil remains warm, in such conditions it grows quickly. This area was covered, so the cleanup has already begun.
- That Beijing cabbage, which was not covered, it needs 10-12 days of warm days to fully ripen. We need consistently warm weather, it has already improved in principle, well, and time, – said the director of the agricultural enterprise Konstantin Karabeev.
In recent years, the geography of growing crops has noticeably expanded: these are not only the southern regions of the country, but also the Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod regions. Basically, vegetable growers use imported seeds. Due to the introduction of restrictions, farmers are fixing a rise in prices, but this has not yet affected the cost of this year’s harvest, as they prepared for the season in advance.
- There were problems with carrot seeds, but everything was resolved. Everything is there for this year, but it is not known how it will be next year, so far no one can say anything. This year, everyone is fully provided, – the director of the agricultural enterprise Konstantin Karabeev.
There is always a demand for Beijing cabbage, says the director of the agricultural enterprise. Accordingly, there are no problems with the sale of products. Local Beijing cabbage can be purchased at chain stores. Part of it is sent to neighboring regions.
