Peru’s agricultural sector is experiencing unprecedented growth, with exports expected to reach a record $15 billion by the end of 2025, according to Ángel Manero Campos, head of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (Midagri). This follows an impressive 23.6% increase in the first four months of 2025 alone, with shipments totaling $3.74 billion (Agraria.pe).
Key Drivers of Growth
Peru’s agricultural success is fueled by high global demand for its premium crops. Between January and April 2025, the top export products included:
- Grapes ($742 million)
- Avocados ($388 million)
- Blueberries ($241 million)
- Mangoes ($226 million)
These four crops alone contributed significantly to the sector’s expansion, reinforcing Peru’s position as a leading supplier of superfoods.
Top Export Markets
The U.S., Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, and Chile were the largest destinations, accounting for 77.7% of Peru’s agricultural exports. Emerging markets like China and Canada also showed strong demand, signaling opportunities for further diversification.
Sustained Growth and Future Potential
Midagri reports that agricultural exports hit $12.8 billion in 2024, and with annual growth exceeding 20%, the $15 billion target appears achievable. Manero Campos emphasized the long-term potential, stating, “Imagine the growth in 10 to 15 years—this sector is vital for Peru’s economy.”
