Land reclamation is a sure tool in the fight against the consequences of negative weather anomalies
Over the past 20 years, weather anomalies — atmospheric and agricultural droughts – have increasingly begun to manifest themselves on the territory of the Republic of Bashkortostan due to changes in climatic conditions. And this naturally has a negative effect on the shortage of crops and, as a result, on the economic well-being of farmers.
Precipitation deficit in Bashkortostan is observed on 80% of arable land. The level of natural moisture in 8 years out of 10 does not exceed 50-60% of the required. In order to reduce the negative consequences of weather anomalies, save future harvests and even improve the welfare of agricultural producers of the republic in drought conditions, farmers have the only necessary tool in their arsenal — land reclamation, or rather irrigation. And in this, specialized specialists — meliorators come to the aid of farmers.
In accordance with this, the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Bashmeliovodkhoz Management” actively conducts vegetation irrigation on the state irrigation systems of the republic. The priority direction in land reclamation in the republic is the cultivation of vegetable, fodder crops and sugar beet. The operational management of the institution has eight inter-farm irrigation systems. The total irrigation area served by irrigation systems is 10,275 hectares. The systems serve irrigated areas on the lands of 14 agricultural producers. The institution also ensures the safe operation of nine reservoirs and ponds with a total capacity of 50.06 million cubic meters. meters.
In 2014-2020, with the direct participation of the institution, 3230 hectares of irrigation were built as part of the implementation of the departmental program “Development of the Reclamation complex of Russia”. This groundwork gave impetus to an increase in reclamation areas in the republic among some agricultural producers: GC “Neral”, LLC “A7 Agro”, LLC “JV “Harvest”, LLC “Bases”, SEC k-z im. Salavata et al .
Since 2022, hydro-reclamation measures have been implemented within the framework of the new state program for the effective involvement in the turnover of agricultural land and the development of the reclamation complex of Russia. Design work has begun on seven facilities with a total capacity of 4,141 hectares, of which 1,196 hectares have already been built and put into operation. As practice shows, the payback of the construction costs of irrigation systems and equipment is 1-4 years, depending on the crop, and the reduction in the cost of the products obtained reaches 40%. At the same time, the share of specific irrigation costs in the cost of additional products is up to 16%.
“In the future, by 2030, the meliorators of the republic face the task of bringing the area of irrigated land in the region to 100 thousand hectares, and for this there are all possibilities — from the availability of highly qualified specialists and specialized modern machinery and equipment to the natural potential of the republic — more than 400 ponds and reservoirs, originally built for the needs of irrigated agriculture, and about 300 thousand hectares of farmland suitable for artificial irrigation without planning works. And we are always ready for mutually beneficial and fruitful cooperation with agricultural producers of the region,” commented Mikhail Zhigulev, Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Management of Bashmeliovodkhoz”.
